Measuring Your Door or Wall

The sizing guide fits the door to your dog. This page fits it to the spot. Most installs need two or three numbers and a couple of photos, and you can send them by text.

Pet door in door glass

We replace the glass with a new panel that has the pet door built in. To order it, we need the height and width of the glass measured to the outside edge of the trim around it, where the trim meets the door.

1

The Width

Hook the tape on the outside edge of the trim on one side, where the trim meets the door. Measure across to the outside edge of the trim on the other side.

2

The Height

Same idea, top to bottom: outside edge of the trim at the top to the outside edge at the bottom.

3

Send It

Text both numbers to 205-564-5788 with a photo of the tape at each end, so we can check where it starts and stops.

The mistake we see most

Measuring to the glass, or to the inside edge of the trim. That number comes out too small, and the panel we order won't fit. If you're not sure which edge you're on, send the photos anyway and we'll tell you.

Pet door in a wall

A wall door goes through the wall with a tunnel that spans its full thickness. We need three numbers to pick the right unit and plan the job, plus photos of the spot from inside and outside.

A

Wall Thickness

Open an outside door and measure across the edge of the wall, from the inside wall surface to the outside surface (siding, brick or stone).

B

Step Down

From the inside floor level to the outside ground, deck or patio, right where the door will go. A big drop may call for a step or ramp.

C

Clear Space

How much open wall you have at that spot, to the nearest door, window or corner.

Outlets, switches and vents

If there's an outlet, switch, vent or plumbing near the spot, get it in your photos. Wiring can often be moved, but we need to know about it up front so it's in the quote.

Solid doors, sliders and windows

Start with photos. We'll tell you if we need a measurement.

Solid door

No measuring needed. Send photos of the door from inside and outside, and tell us what it's made of if you know (wood, steel or fiberglass).

Sliding glass or French door

Send photos of the whole door from inside and outside. We'll tell you exactly what to measure for your door.

Window

Send photos from inside and outside, showing the whole window and the ground or floor below it.
